Reading Minds

Have you ever tried reading other people's mind? I'm sure you have. Perhaps most of you also have noticed that other people are constantly trying to read your mind. Other people, too, may have noticed that you have noticed that they are trying to read your mind. This volley balling of mind reading just keeps on going and going.

So, what's the big deal?

I hypothesize most of us aren't that good at hitting the ball over the net and we follow a very consistent pattern:

Level 0: We say what we mean to say.
Level 1: We say things based on what other people would think of us.
Level 2: We say things based on knowing that other people know that we say things based on what other people would think of us.
Level 3, 4, 5, 6, and so on..

Most people, I'd say lie in between level 0 and 3 inclusive. The distribution graph, I'd say, would look like a exponential decay function. In addition, I'd say, the fluctuation of their level of mind reading would be very small between any two people. (each relationship is viewed independently)

If my hypothesis is true, you can use this to your own "advantage". This requires you to collect some data from the person you wish to mind read. By performing a statistical analysis, you should be able to read their mind.

In order to reduce the number of factors that affects our mind reading level, it's best to use computer to filter the interaction between two individuals, such as networked computer poker game.

Well, I must note that this idea is not all that genuine and I place doubt on every statements I've made for this posting. I'm writing this to make you think I'm sophisticated individual as well as attempting to pollute the data you have already collected on me, thus hindering your ability to read my mind, even though the writing of this posting contradicts it.

Also, please note that, the more capable you are at reading other people's mind, the more dramatic your mistake will be. And, even if you can read people minds' all the time, that doesn't gurantee you happiness.

Please, I welcome your comments.

Not supporting the latter myself, I am still interested in knowing how it would be like if people, by default, support the latter. I speculate, if we were to support the latter by default, we'd be perceived as devils from today's standards. However, even though we'd be perceived differently, our nature would not change nor will we be burdened by our own conscience.
